The transition from summer to fall always seem to throw us off balance year after year. It starts to get really cold outside, and the days get shorter leaving us with dark skies by 5:30 PM. All these changes seem to shift our mood, and on top of this, everyone’s lives tend to get busier at this time of year. Between work priorities, schoolwork, application deadlines, the holidays, extracurricular activities, and other commitments, it becomes hard to find motivation to put time aside for yourself to focus on your body and work out! We have created a list of ways that you can get out of your fall fitness slump and how to stay motivated to keep in tip-top shape!
1. Define your goals. What do YOU want to get out of this season?
The first thing that you need to do if you want your workout plan to be successful is to set goals. Are you focused on reaching a certain body fat percentage? Do you want to gain more muscle mass? Get a faster time on a sprint? Whatever it is, write it down and think about them often so that they will always be at the front of your mind.
2. Set a schedule and keep a planner. Write which workouts you will be doing and when each week.
Keeping a schedule and staying organized is key, especially after the first couple weeks of a new fitness routine are over. To stay on top of it, get a calendar or planner that has room to write workouts in each day. At the beginning of each week, write in your gym schedule for the week (with times), and what you are going to work on. This way, you can look ahead and plan it around all of your other activities.
3. Fuel your body with foods that will energize you for each day.
Eating a nutritious diet will not only play a big role physically on your fitness journey, it will help mentally, too. When you eat healthy foods, you are much more energized and ready for the day, which will encourage you to get out and work out. If you are eating unhealthy foods, you will feel lethargic and you won't have the energy to complete your work outs.
4. Find somewhere with beautiful foliage or scenery where you can work up a sweat!
Fall is a great season to get outside and get some fresh, crisp air! Head over to a local trail, walking path, or a road that isn’t too busy, and workout outside. In many areas, the leaves are turning, so you can get in a great workout while enjoying a view! If you live in a warmer climate that doesn’t get stereotypical fall weather, find a local park with scenic views, and work out in the morning or evening to experience the fresh air!
5. Take Edge Strong or Group X classes!
Come on in for some indoor exercises in a group setting! Our Group X and Edge Strong classes are a great way to meet new people who are also on their own fitness journey. Our classes create a community that will help to keep you motivated. If you take classes, you will also start to get to know the different trainers and instructors who will then help you set even more goals and encourage you throughout your journey!
6. Work hard and stay consistent!
Don’t give up! The fall season tends to be a busier time all around with most people, so be sure to set your schedule and stick to it. Consistency is key - the only bad workout is the one that didn't happen. If you keep a good mindset and stick to your schedule, you will be motivated and out of your fall fitness slump in no time!
