I began to record my journey and was planning on sharing this in September on the 1st anniversary of the Edge Fitness Clubs in Bristol, but I decided to share this early to acknowledge my Personal Trainer, Alex, who is being promoted within the company and played a major role in enabling me to reach my goals. I wish him only the best and great success as he furthers his career within an outstanding organization.In August 2018, realizing that I probably have lived 2/3 of my life at age 57, I knew that if I didn’t get healthy now, my remaining years would be unknown. Being overweight and on daily medication, I was heading in the wrong direction to enjoy the years I had left to live. I remember noticing the progress of the Bristol Edge when construction was being done to open the club. Seeing the signs to view the Preview Center, it was always in the back of my mind to join. Heck, I wasted more money at KFC than the cost of the membership, so why not give it a chance to change my life for the better? At the time, I wasn’t aware of how important those changes would be.
Fast forward to summer 2019. I am down 62 pounds since joining The Edge of Bristol in September 2018, and down 90 pounds from my heaviest weight! I reduced my daily medication by half, and now I’m no longer obese. Family, friends and co-workers were amazed with the progress I was making in a very short period of time, and yes- getting asked the question, "Are you sick?" No, going to the gym 5 times a week and no longer being a couch potato was only the start.
I then signed up with a personal trainer who played a key role in my success. Being matched up with Alex was instrumental in my transformation. Once during one of our training sessions, I was uncomfortable working with the equipment on the floor due to my size and abilities to perform the routine. Alex told me to “Stand up and look at everyone here working out. They are in all different stages of their journey and abilities, and you’ll get there too”. Those spoken words gave me the encouragement and confidence needed to reach my goals. Was it easy? Not at first, but Alex always provided guidance and encouragement to believe in the system whenever I was dealing with the ups and down during my journey. He also recommended signing up for the Edge Strong classes and the The Edge Challenge. These two programs along with hard work contributed to my success.
When you enter the Edge Fitness Clubs, you’re always greeted by the friendliest staff, who are always willing to help out and answer questions. Anything from where a piece of equipment is located, or how to perform an exercise routine correctly, or signing up for a class, they are there for you. The team’s dynamic makes going to the gym an enjoyable experience. Now, if you’re ready to CHANGE YOUR LIFE for the BETTER, GET HEALTHY, FIT and GAIN CONFIDENCE to be in the BEST SHAPE you can be in, than THE EDGE is the gym for you. I’m looking forward to year 2 to see what physical growth I will be achieving. With the strong encouragement and support provided, I’m confident another successful year is in store for me!
