Quick Tips for a Healthy Halloween
Before your willpower gets tossed away in a pile of candy wrappers, know that you can have a piece of candy and be healthy, too … remember what we always say: everything in moderation! It’s all in how you do it. Halloween can be the start of a season-long fight against the allure of comfort foods, desserts, and sweets. Or, it can be a practice run for a healthier approach to the big-food holidays that are coming up.
Here are some quick and easy ways to stay on track:
Before Halloween, stock up on healthy snacks and fresh produce. Put these snacks conveniently within reach. Make them the fastest, easiest option to ward off hunger. Mix sweet and savory to combat both cravings...trail mix is a great way to get some protein in but also add that sweet factor.
If you're that person who will eat candy if it is in the house, hold off on buying candy for trick-or-treaters until the evening of Halloween. This will ensure that the candy gets to the kids, and you won't have to do another store run because you ate all the candy.
Plan a quick and healthy Halloween dinner. Whether you are taking your kids trick-or-treating, handing out candy, or hosting friends and family, you are bound to be busy! Pre-plan what you will be eating this weekend! Don't fall back on fast food, if you can, pre-cook your dinner and have it ready to go!
On Halloween, set out a buffet of fresh veggie sticks, cheese, whole wheat crackers, and fruit, and other healthy snacks if you are hosting or staying home. These are easy to throw together, tasty, and will keep your mind off eating candy! If you're craving sweets, treat yourself to candy, but again - in moderation.
Get a workout in! It's a busier day than usual, but still, try to fit in a 15 or 20-minute workout if you can! Head to The Edge, take an EdgeTotal Access+ class at home or check out this quick pumpkin workout you can do by clicking here. Make a plan with your fitness friends to do something, even if it's just a walk or hike somewhere. Just be sure to MOVE.
Post-Halloween, get back to it! Since this year's Halloween is on a Sunday, Monday is the perfect day to get back into your workout routine and nutrition plan. Even if you stuffed yourself with candy on Halloween, don't use the "all-or-nothing" thinking. Just because you indulged, does not mean your whole week is ruined. Get fully back into your routine and cook up some healthy meals for the week!
You got this! 💪
