Getting Your Fitness Routine Winter Ready

Posted by The Edge Fitness Clubs on October 22, 2021

The beginning of fall is a time to reset and get your priorities in order. With the start of the fall, daylight savings right around the corner, and the weather cooling down, it's a good time to reassess your fitness routine and get it ready for winter. Maybe you're someone who loves going for outdoor runs, walking on the track, kayaking, or hiking. These are all great workouts! But with the leaves changing and the weather getting colder, it makes it harder to incorporate those workouts into a routine. One of the best ways to take advantage of starting a new season is to try a new exercise routine or change up your existing one.

A new fall exercise routine also coincides with the need for better emotional and mental well-being as the weather cools off and the days get shorter. Paying extra attention to self-care is especially important as fall folds into winter, and many people become affected by seasonal changes. The good news is, exercise happens to be a natural antidepressant!

Multiple studies have found that regular exercise is linked to improved mental health. In other words, regular exercise has a direct correlation with higher levels of happiness. Exercise boosts happiness by:
1. Releasing endorphins, improving your mood.
2. Giving you more energy and making you feel more refreshed.
3. Improving sleep.
4. Allowing you to socialize if you take workout classes or work out with friends.
5. Boosting your confidence and being a natural stress reliever.

In essence, keeping up with your fitness routine will be super important as the weather changes and it gets darker earlier.
